The Cotuit Kettleers headed into today’s off day one game above .500 and in sole possession of second place in the CCBL’s western division. The Kettleers sit two points ahead of third place Wareham, and 11 behind first place Bourne.
Kettleers past and present make move to pro ball
25 Cotuit players from the 2019 & 2021 squads were selected in this year’s draft. The Kettleers led the league with 25 draft picks, headlined by John Rhodes (Kentucky), who was selected 76th overall to the Orioles.
Eric Brown stays hot
Eric Brown (Coastal Carolina) has been on a tear recently. The shortstop from Coastal Carolina went 5-18 this week and drove in three runs. Brown’s .309 batting average is good for 11th best on the cape. His hit of the week was a three run homer at Wareham on Monday.
Cotuit wins close one at Falmouth
The Kettleers had a thrilling 3-2 victory on Sunday vs. their west division rival Falmouth. The Ketts grabbed a three-run lead through five innings, and were able to withstand a late comeback attempt by the Commodores. The intense game was capped by a wild ninth inning that culminated in an epic Shaddon Peavyhouse (Coastal Carolina) strikeout to put the game to rest.
Kettleers sweep Wareham
Cotuit cemented themselves in second place this week with two big wins against the Wareham Gatemen. The Kettleers won both games fairly easily, winning 6-0 on Monday and 6-1 on Wednesday. The Kettleers are now 3-1 against the Gatemen on the year, which will be important come playoff time.
New faces in Cotuit
With the draft taking away a multitude of players, some new faces have been making plays for Cotuit. Outfielder Jace Grady (Dallas Baptist) has gotten off to a hot start at the plate, reaching base four times in his first two games. Trey Holland (Denison) had a productive start on Wednesday, throwing three scoreless innings in just 27 pitches. Quinn Mathews (Stanford) was able to navigate through a bases loaded situation in the first inning vs. Falmouth on Sunday, and eventually threw 3.1 innings of scoreless baseball.
