Quick hitter: Cotuit shuts out Wareham to climb over .500

Posted by Katherine Ware
/ July 12, 2021

Score/result: Cotuit 6-0 Wareham

Cotuit pitcher of the game: Jake Brooks (UCLA) was dominant on the mound for his third straight start. Brooks tossed five scoreless and didn’t walk a batter. He allowed just two hits and struck out five. Brooks picked up his third win of the season. The UCLA product has allowed just one earned run in 20.2 IP this season.

Cotuit hitter of the game: Ryan Ritter (Kentucky) had his best game of the season. Early on, Ritter wowed with his defensive plays. In his first at-bat, he lined a single up the middle. In his next at-bat, Ritter smashed his first home run of the season into the left field bleachers.

Cotuit hit of the game: Eric Brown Jr. (Coastal Carolina) has been one of the hottest Kettleers in recent weeks. Brown’s hot-streak continued as he broke the game open in the sixth inning. Brown launched a three-run home run over the left field fence to put the Kettleers up 6-0. The homer was Brown’s third of the season.

Key stat: 3. All of the Kettleers’ runs came on home runs. As the MLB home run derby played on people’s phones in the stands, the Kettleers had a derby of their own. River Town (Dallas Baptist) completed the trio of home runs with a two-run blast in the seventh inning. It was Town’s first of the season.

Cotuit: 6 runs / 6 hits / 0 errors

Wareham: 0 runs / 3 hits / 2 errors

Winning Pitcher: Brooks (2-1)

Next game: Tuesday 7/13 at Harwich, @ 6:00 PM

We’ll have more in a game story later.
