Quick hitter: Cotuit’s struggles continue in loss at Chatham

Posted by Katherine Ware
/ July 21, 2021

Score/result: Cotuit 3-12 Chatham

Cotuit hit/hitter of the game: The Cotuit offense needed a boost after a quiet past three days. Despite being in a large hole early, Jace Grady (Dallas Baptist) provided the spark that the Kettleers needed. After two walks, Grady made the Anglers paid. The Dallas Baptist product flied a towering home run over the left field fence for his second homer of the season. The homer drove in three runs, the same amount of runs as the Kettleers had scored in the past three days. Grady finished the night with three hits.

Cotuit pitcher of the game: Harrison Cohen (George Washington) was a bright spot on a rough night of pitching for the Kettleers. Cohen was the only Cotuit pitcher to record a 1-2-3 inning. Cohen struck out one batter and needed just nine pitches to get through the inning. The right-handed pitcher was running his fastball into the mid-90’s. Cohen has allowed just two runs over his last 8.2 innings.

Cotuit pitching moment of the game: Ryan Deo (Southern New Hampshire) made his collegiate debut as a college pitcher tonight. After spending most of his summer as Cotuit’s bullpen catcher, Deo took the mound in the eighth inning. He struck out the first batter of the inning. Deo also ended a scoreless frame with his second strikeout.

Key stat: 3. Maxwell Romero Jr. was the thorn in Cotuit’s side as he deposited three home runs over the fence on Wednesday night. He opened the scoring with a three-run shot in the first. In the next inning, Romero hit a solo shot over the right field fence. The left-handed hitter completed the trio of homers with a two-run shot to center in the fourth.

Cotuit: 3 runs / 7 hits / 2 errors

Chatham: 12 runs / 13 hits / 0 errors
