Quick hitter: Late HR dooms Cotuit in loss to Brewster

Posted by Katherine Ware
/ July 10, 2021

Score/result: Cotuit 3-5 Brewster

Cotuit pitcher of the game: Justin Meis (Eastern Michigan) posted his second straight quality start tonight. Meis tossed five innings and allowed just three hits. The only run he allowed came on a solo homer. The right-handed pitcher attacked the strike zone as he didn’t walk a single batter. He also struck out five. Meis finished with a final line of 5 IP, 3 H, 0 BB, 5 K, and 0 R.

Cotuit hit/hitter of the game: Andy Garriola (Old Dominion) has been Mr. Clutch for the Kettleers in recent games. That trend continued on Saturday. Garriola gave the Kettleers a 2-1 lead in the fourth inning with a two-run homer. The home run, Garriola’s third of the summer, was a no-doubter as it left the bat at 106 MPH.

Key stat: 3. The Whitecaps scored three runs in the eighth inning to take a 5-3 lead over the Kettleers. The three runs came off Jake Thompson’s second home run of the game. Cotuit was once up 3-1, but couldn’t extend their lead after the fourth inning and the Brewster bats did damage against the bullpen.

Cotuit: 3 runs / 4 hits / 0 errors

Brewster: 5 runs / 7 hits / 1 error

Next game: Sunday 7/11 at Falmouth, at Guv Fuller Field @ 6:00 PM

We’ll have more in a game story later.
