Game story: Cotuit routed by Hyannis

Posted by Katherine Ware
/ July 26, 2021

Hyannis, MA- It was a night to forget for the Kettleers, as Hyannis pounded 18 hits en route to a 15-5 victory. Cotuit (12-16-1) jumped out to a 3-0 lead, but Hyannis responded by putting up 15 runs in a four inning stretch to put the game out of reach.

Moments that mattered:

Gold stays hot with another blast, gives Cotuit lead

With the game still knotted at zero in top of the third, the Kettleers had two runners on with two outs when Luke Gold (Boston College) stepped up to the plate. Gold, who hit a homer in Sunday’s game against Wareham, belted his sixth blast of the season to give Cotuit a 3-0 lead.

Hyannis puts up seven in the third

After Cotuit took the lead in the top of the third, Hyannis responded with a big inning of their own in the bottom half. The Harbor Hawks scored seven two-out runs in the frame and sent 11 men to the plate. Hyannis banged eight hits in the inning, including a big three-run homer by the designated hitter Luke Mann. The seven run inning proved to be all that Hyannis would need in the game, as they ended up putting up eight more runs in the next three frames to seal the deal.

Notables:

Ryan Ritter (Kentucky): 3-4, 1R, 2B

Luke Gold (Boston College): 1-2, HR, 3 RBI

Up next:

Cotuit returns to Lowell Park tomorrow to take on the first place Bourne Braves. Cotuit’s last game vs. Bourne was 3-1 loss at Doran Park. Trey Holland (Denison) will get the start for the Kettleers. The game will be played at 4:30 tomorrow at Lowell Park.
