Quick hitter: Cotuit topples Gateman in Wareham, again

Posted by Katherine Ware
/ July 14, 2021

Score/result: Cotuit 6-1 Wareham

Cotuit hitter of the game: Brooks Baldwin (UNC Wilmington) had his third multi-hit game of the summer tonight. Baldwin led off the second inning with a double into the right-center gap. He scored the Kettleers’ first run on a Jace Grady (Dallas Baptist) RBI-single. Baldwin tacked on some insurance in the eighth inning as he lined an RBI-single into center field. He finished the night with two hits, one RBI, and two runs scored.

Cotuit pitcher of the game: Trey Holland (Denison) made his Cotuit debut as he got the start on the mound today. Holland made a strong first impression. The southpaw retired the side in order on eight pitches in the first inning to start his summer. Holland allowed just one baserunner in the next two innings as he worked three scoreless innings. The Denison product allowed just one hit and didn’t walk a single batter. Holland needed just twenty seven pitches to get through the three frames.

Cotuit hit of the game: Nathan Martorella (California) came off the bench in the sixth inning as a defensive replacement. Martorella’s only at-bat came in the eighth inning and he made it count. The left-handed hitter smoked a ball the other way for a two-run single to extend Cotuit’s lead to five.

Winning pitcher: Ryan Long (Pomona-Pitzer)

Cotuit: 6 runs / 9 hits / 1 error

Wareham: 1 runs / 4 hits / 1 error
