Quick Hitter: Cotuit tops Lexington Blue Sox in exhibition game

Posted by Katherine Ware
/ June 17, 2021

Score/Result: Cotuit 12-0 Lexington

Position Player of the Game: John Rhodes came off the bench for the Ketts and made a big splash, as the outfielder from Kentucky launched two home runs into the left field bullpen. Rhodes displayed easy power that he will bring to the Cotuit lineup this summer.

Rhodes lifted two homers over the left field fence in the exhibition

Pitcher of the Game: Alaska Abney earned the win and flashed some dominant stuff during his two innings of work. The side-winder from Coastal Carolina tossed two strong innings, striking out four and only surrendering one hit. Abney will look to be a force out of the pen this season for the Ketts, featuring a mid to high 80’s fastball and wipeout slider.

Key statistic: 13. The Kettleers were active on the base-paths all day, stealing 13 bases. Eric Brown and Mikey Perez led the team with three bases swiped, and two other Ketts added two of their own.

Hit of the game:. RJ Schreck hit the first home run of the summer for the Ketts, as he belted a monster home run in the bottom of the sixth to put the Ketts up 4-0.

Schreck reached base in all three of his plate appearances and scored three runs.

Pitching moment of the game: In the top of the first, Will Jacobsen struck out the side and set the tone for the rest of the Kettleers’ pitching staff. All three of the Blue Sox hitters swung through strike three, as Jacobsen got the game started in the right direction for the Ketts.

Cotuit: 12 runs/15 hits/1 error

Lexington: 0 runs/1 hit/5 errors

Next game: 6/20 vs. Wareham @ 5pm

We’ll have more with a full game story and recap in the morning.
