/ June 20, 2021

Score/Result: Cotuit 8-5 Wareham

Position player/hit of the game: Eric Brown (Coastal Carolina) drove in the first runs of the season for the Kettleers on a three-run home run in the bottom of the second. Brown worked his way to a favorable 3-1 count, then crushed a fastball over the left-field fence.

Pitcher of the Game: Andre Granillo (UC-Riverside) navigated the middle innings of the game beautifully, tossing three scoreless frames while only surrendering two hits. Granillo struck out five Gatemen in his three innings of work, using both his fastball and breaking ball to frustrate the Wareham hitters.

Key Stat: 671. That’s the number of days since the last pitch was thrown at Lowell park. Today’s opening day was a celebration of all the hard work it took to get baseball back on Cape Cod.

Pitching moment of the game: Dalton Rhadans (Wofford) entered the game with a runner on in the top of the fourth inning. Rhadans immediately surrendered a hit to move a runner into scoring position. From there, the sidewinder bounced back to retire the next two Wareham batters with of a strikeout and a pop up. Rhadans was able to silence the Wareham rally, and preserve the one-run Cotuit lead.

Cotuit: 8 runs/ 9 hits/ 1 error

Wareham: 5 runs/8 hits/1 error

Winning pitcher: Andre Granillo (1-0), Save: Alaska Abney (1)

Next Game: Monday, 6/21, 6PM @ Hyannis

We’ll have more with a full game story and recap in the morning.
