Quick Hitter: Cotuit bats come alive in blowout of Hyannis

Score/Result: Cotuit 13-5 Hyannis

Position player of the game: RJ Schreck (Duke) hadn’t seen the field since Friday but made the most of his opportunity today with two hits. After singling in his first at-bat, Schreck blasted his first home run of the season over the right field wall in the fifth inning. The left-handed hitter is hitting .364 through four games.

Pitcher of the game: Jake Smith (Miami) was dominant in his first official start of the season. Smith struck out the first five batters he faced and finished with 10 K’s over five scoreless inning. Smith’s 10 strikeouts were the most by a Kettleer in an appearance this season. The right-handed pitcher allowed just two hits and a walk. He finished with a final line of 5.0 IP, 2 H, 1 BB, 10 K, 0 R, and 71 pitches.

Hit of the game: Brett Roberts (Florida State) capped a five-run first inning with a two-run single to center field. Roberts has seven RBI in six games. The first inning was a welcome sight for the Kettleers. After scoring two runs and producing just seven hits over the last two games, Cotuit compiled six hits in the first inning.

Key statistic: 8. The Kettleers and head coach Mike Roberts looked determine to put the pressure on their opponent today after two lackluster games at the plate. Cotuit stole eight bases, all within the first four innings. Cole Cummings (UC Santa Barbara) and Blake Baldwin (UNC Wilmington) combined to steal six bases and score seven runs at the top of the order.

Cotuit: 13 runs / 16 hits / 2 errors

Hyannis: 5 runs / 10 hits / 2 errors
