Preview: Kettleers return home to take on Bourne

Posted by Katherine Ware
/ June 27, 2021

Game 6: Cotuit Kettleers (2-3) vs. Bourne Braves (5-0)

Where: Lowell Park

When: 5:00 PM

How-to-watch: https://www.youtube.com/user/OfficialKettleers

Probable Cotuit Starter: Hambleton Oliver (Baylor)

Probable Bourne Starter: Nick Zwack (Xavier)

Last game result: Cotuit 0-2 Brewster

The Kettleers return to Lowell Park for their first home game since opening day, hoping to get back on the right track after Saturday’s defeat at Brewster. Last night, coming off a 16 run performance at Y-D, the Ketts were only able to record three hits against Whitecaps pitching.

Hambleton Oliver (Baylor) will get the start for Cotuit. The right hander last pitched out of the pen for the Kettleers, throwing three solid innings at Orleans last Thursday. Oliver did not have dominant stuff that night, but was able to induce enough weak contact to scatter two hits and limit a talented Orleans roster to one run.

The Kettleers offense comes into tonight’s game looking for a spark. Brett Roberts (Florida State) almost broke the ice for Cotuit last night, with a bases loaded flyout to the deepest part of the ballpark. Also expect Luke Gold (Boston College) and Cole Cummings (UCSB) to be in the lineup tonight. Cummings continued his five game hit-streak last night and Gold has three homers in the last three games.

Sunday’s game will honor essential workers and those effected by COVID-19. Laura Kowal will throw out the ceremonial first pitch before tonight’s game. Laura is the daughter of Joe Mladnich, who was a longtime Kettleers fan that unfortunately succumbed to the virus. Be there before the game to support Laura, as well as others who were effected by COVID-19 in the past year.
