What Happened: Cotuit (15-11-3) tied Orleans (14-11-3) 6-6 on Sunday night at Lowell Park.

Fun with Scoring:

9 hits for Orleans vs. just 6 for Cotuit. This snaps a four-game streak of Cotuit outhitting opponents. The last time this feat was accomplished was July 9th, vs. Bourne.

5 runs scored in the bottom of the fourth for the Kettleers. This is now the 6th time Cotuit has scored at least five runs in a single inning this season.

5 runs scored for the Orleans Firebirds in the top of the sixth inning. This is just the 2nd time Cotuit has had five or more runs scored on them in a single inning this year. The last time this occurred was July 1st vs. Hyannis, a 9-8 win.

The 6 hits for Cotuit are the least amount in a game since July 6th vs. Chatham, a shortened 5-3 loss.

Pitchers Not as Sharp as Recent Games, Still Battle

The 9 walks allowed by Cotuit pitching is the most since June 11th, over a month ago, vs. Chatham. That was the second game of the season and resulted in a 7-6 win for Chatham. There were nine walks by Cotuit pitching in that game as well.

10 runners left on base for Orleans on the day. Even though guys like Christopher Farrell (William & Mary), Bo Hofstra (Purdue) and Kyle Nicolas (Ball State) maybe weren’t as sharp as recent outings, they still did a great job of battling like crazy and limiting the damage.

0 earned runs for Kole Ramage (Arkansas) out of the pen today. He also struck out 2 and allowed just 3 hits in 4 innings pitched for the Kettleers. His ERA dropped from 6.00 to 3.60 in the process.

Kyle Nicolas throws home vs. Orleans on Sunday night

0 earned runs for Kyle Nicolas tonight. After a string of games in which he allowed earned runs in five of six games, he has since gone 4.1 innings of no runs allowed. In that span of 4.1 innings, he has also struck out six batters.

Offense Scores 6, Business as Usual

2 hits for Nick Gonzales (New Mexico State) after missing the last two games with a knee injury. He hit a double in the first inning, and also drove in his 21st RBI of the season, good for fourth in the CCBL, even with the two missed games.

1 double and one RBI for Mason McWhorter (Georgia Southern). After starting the season 2 for his first 11 with zero extra base hits, he now is hitting .308 with 4 doubles in his last six games.

1 RBI for Matthew Mervis (Duke), who now has 11 RBI on the season. The craziest part? The guy has only seen 32 at bats. That means he is averaging .34 RBI for every plate appearance. Just for comparison, Nick Gonzales, the RBI leader on the team, is averaging .21 RBI for every plate appearance. Mervis also has a 2.25 ERA on the mound to boot.

1 RBI for Christian Robinson (Stanford) in this one. The outfielder now has 8 RBI on the season, and 3 games with multiple RBI.
