The Cotuit Kettleers (6-4-1) got back on track vs. Brewster on Sunday, winning both double header games by scores of 5-2 and 6-2, respectively. Here are some key plot-points for the Kettleers moving forward.

More Power=More Wins
- In games that Cotuit has won, they have hit 20 extra base hits. For all of the mathematicians out there, that is 6 wins and twenty extra base hits. Some quick math and you will end up with 3.3 extra base hits per win.
- In games that Cotuit has either lost or tied, they have hit just 7 extra base hits. With five games that have ended in either loss or ties on the year, and seven extra base hits in those games, that gives us 1.4 extra base hits per loss.
- That is close to a two extra base hit difference between wins and losses. Moving forward for the Kettleers, it looks like the magic number is When the Kettleers have hit at least three extra-base hits, their record sits at an impressive 5-0-1.
- The two games against Brewster also marked the first time Cotuit has hit a long ball since exactly a week ago at Yarmouth-Dennis. Both Casey Schmitt (San Diego State, 2nd of the year) and Adam Oviedo (Oral Roberts, 3rd of the year) left the yard in this double header. The 14 combined home runs for Cotuit is the most in the CCBL.

Bullpen Good as Always, Getting Even Stronger?
- In 7.5 innings of work on Sunday, the bullpen allowed one earned run while striking out 12 Whitecaps and walking just
- So far, eleven active Kettleers have pitched out of the bullpen. For those eleven, the combined ERA is 2.64. With a number like that, it’s no surprise Coach Mike Roberts has continuously praised his bullpen staff.
- In these two games, we saw action from Bo Hofstra (Purdue), Beck Way (Belmont Abbey), Kyle Nicolas (Ball State), Nick Swiney (NC State) and Holden Powell (UCLA). The five combined for 5 hits against.
The Hitting’s Been Good, the Pitching’s Been Good…What’s Missing?
- After the game, Coach Roberts called it “the best defensive game of the season.”
- He wasn’t wrong, as Cotuit combined for 0 errors across 14 innings of action.
- So far in the six wins for Cotuit this season, the Kettleers have averaged just 1 error across those half-dozen games.
- The defense has been the one sore spot for Roberts throughout the year so far, but if Cotuit is able to clean that up, the other two key aspects of the game (pitching, hitting) have proven to be more than up to par.

Number Fire:
4: Combined RBI for Adam Oviedo across the two contests. He is now up to 8 RBI on the season, good for fourth in the CCBL.
5: Total walks for Kettleers pitching across the two games.
10: Strikeouts for Cotuit pitching in game two of the doubleheader. 4 of those came from closer Kyle Nicolas.
12: Combined hits for the Kettleers on Sunday. Especially strong considering they only had 1 the night before in a tough 2-1 loss at Harwich.
13: Points for the Cotuit Kettleers in the CCBL standings. That is good for first in the west and tied for first in the CCBL with Orleans, Chatham, and Brewster.
27: Combined RBI for Adam Oviedo (8), Oraj Anu (Kentucky, 7), Nick Gonzales (New Mexico State, 6), and Casey Schmitt. In just eleven game of action, that is an average of 2.45 RBI for the quartet in any given game thus far.
99: Fastest pitch thrown (per the Lowell Park radar gun) for closer Kyle Nicolas on the day. The Ball State product topped 100 MPH for Ball State in the spring.
What’s Next?
Cotuit heads to Chatham (6-4-1) on Monday night for a makeup game. The first pitch in that one is scheduled for 7:00 P.M.
