COTUIT– Heading into Sunday’s game, the Kettleers hoped to bring the same energy to Lowell Park that they carried in last night’s win over Hyannis.
Any energy that Cotuit had was quickly sapped away by the Commodores, who rocked Cotuit for eleven hits en route to a 8-1 win on Sunday night at Lowell Park.
Griffin McLarty (College of Charleston) got the start for Cotuit in Sunday’s loss to Falmouth.
“We got off to a bad start,” said manager Mike Roberts after the game. “Passed balls, giving up the run early, and it was kind of downhill from there.”
In the first inning, Falmouth was able to take the early lead. Matt Wallner (Southern Miss.) took advantage of a leadoff single, and advanced to third on a passed ball and wild pitch. Kyle Stowers (Stanford) drove in Wallner with an RBI single to make it 1-0 for the Commodores.
But Stowers was not done. After Austin Langworthy (Florida) reached on a walk, Stowers launched a two-run home run over the right field fence, extending the Falmouth lead to 3-0.
Falmouth began to pile on the runs in the fourth inning. After Will Brennan (Kansas State) and Wallner got aboard, the Commodores got three singles in four at-bats making it a 6-0 Falmouth lead.
Even their outs produced runs. Logan Davidson (Clemson) grounded out to shortstop in an ensuing at-bat, but drove in Langworthy to make it 7-0 after four innings.
Michael Toglia (UCLA) had the lone RBI on Sunday with a fielder’s choice in the ninth inning.
Langworthy himself would go deep in the sixth inning over the right field fence, for the eighth Falmouth run of the game.
Cotuit got a scoreless inning of relief each from Luke Chevalier (Northern State), Ryan Smith (Princeton), and Zane Collins (Wright State), not allowing a run in the final three frames.
Michael Toglia (UCLA) would drive in an RBI on a fielder’s choice in the ninth to prevent the shutout for the Kettleers.
The Kettleers will have the day off tomorrow, as they head to Fenway Park for a league-wide workout. On Tuesday, they return to Lowell Park to take on the Harwich Mariners. First pitch is set for 5:00 p.m.
