COTUIT– While Brewster came into Lowell Park on Monday night riding a huge momentum win over Orleans the night before as they leaped into a playoff spot, that momentum was quickly squashed.
By making quick work of the Whitecaps, the Kettleers put up a pair of runs in the first and third innings, and then added a trio of runs in the fourth to put the game out of reach.
Zach Biermann (Coastal Carolina) went 2-for-4 on Tuesday, with a run and three RBI’s for Cotuit in a 9-2 win over Brewster.
So what was the commonality from each of those innings? The fact that Zach Biermann (Coastal Carolina) was part of each run-producing frame.
In the first inning, Biermann hit a towering home run to right field for the first run of the game. He added an RBI on a ground-out in the third, and then helped to blow the game open with an RBI single in the fourth, as Cotuit built a 7-0 lead.
“Just staying on balls and not trying to do too much,” said Biermann. “I just saw a pitch I could handle on the inside part of the plate, and I’m happy I got a piece of it. I just take what the pitcher gives me.”
Biermann went 2-for-4 on Tuesday, with a run and three RBI’s for Cotuit. He is currently hitting .293 on the season, with five homers and 23 RBI’s. Mike Roberts was complimentary of a different hitter seeming to kick-start Cotuit’s offense on a daily basis.
“It seems like someone different starts it every day,” said Roberts. “Biermann started it today with his home run, and then everyone else kind of followed behind and we were really fortunate.”
Moss, Holland look solid in Lowell Park debuts
Addison Moss (Rice) went 4 2/3 innings, allowing two earned runs off six hits to go with five strikeouts.
Addison Moss (Rice) and Trey Holland (Sewanee) combined to go the distance in Monday’s 8-inning game, with Moss getting his first win as a Kettleer.
He went 4 ⅔ innings, allowing two earned runs off six hits with five strikeouts. Holland pitched 3 ⅓ shutout innings for Cotuit, giving up as many hits (1) as strikeouts.
For Holland’s efforts, he was able to get the win in his first appearance for Cotuit. After the game, Roberts lauded each pitcher for being effective in carrying the load on Monday.
“I really enjoyed seeing Addison [Moss] throw four really good innings, and then seeing Trey Holland come in and do a fantastic job, said Roberts postgame. “You’ve gotta throw strikes to win, and both of those guys did a really good job throwing strikes.”
Don’t let the Kettleers get hot
In case fans haven’t noticed, Cotuit is now the hottest team in the league. Here are some figures on their recent winning streak.
With Monday’s win, the Kettleers are now 8-2 in their last ten games. They have played 12 games since their visit to Fenway Park on July 16, and have only lost three of them.
In those 12 games, Cotuit has not scored less than two runs in any of them, and has scored at least five runs (considered to be their magic number earlier this season) in eight of them.
But most impressively, they have been even more dominant away from Lowell Park. They have not lost a road game in nearly 2 ½ weeks, since a loss to Wareham at Spillane Field back on July 13. That now marks six consecutive road wins for the Kettleers, who are 11-9-1 on the road this season.
They will stay home on Tuesday, as they host the Wareham Gatemen. First pitch at Lowell Park is set for 5:00 p.m.
