- Friday was the first time the Kettleers have gone to extra innings in 2018. The Kettleers were 0-2 in their two extra inning games in 2017. The loss also ended the Kettleers perfect record in games where they score five or more runs. Cotuit is now 8-1 when it scores five or more and 0-6 when they score four or fewer.
- Cotuit is now 2-4 against West division opponents. The Kettleers are 6-3 in cross-divisional matchups against the East. The Kettleers are also 3-2 in one-run games. In eight wins, the average Cotuit margin of victory is 4.25 runs while in 7 losses, the average margin of defeat is 4 runs.
- Outfielder Will Robertson (Creighton) returned to the lineup after missing two games due to a wrist injury. Robertson was hit on the left wrist by a pitch on June 24 against Chatham. He was taken to the hospital for x-rays on the 24th, but no fracture was found. Cotuit had four games scheduled between the 24th and 29th, but two rainouts allowed Robertson to miss only a pair of games. Robertson said he “felt great.” This is the second summer in a row where Robertson suffered a wrist injury, after breaking his hamate bone last summer.
- Absent from Friday’s matchup was Thomas Dillard (Ole Miss). Dillard was selected to participate in the NCAA home run derby in Omaha on June 30. Dillard led the Rebels with 13 homers in his sophomore year in Oxford. Dillard has just one longball as a Kettleer, a moonshot to right field at Hyannis on June 19. In Omaha, Dillard will have the advantage of using an aluminum bat. Dillard will face five other college sluggers; Nic Ready (Air Force), Logan Davidson (Clemson), Parker Phillips (Austin Peay), Kyle McCann (Georgia Tech) and Wil Dalton (Florida). Phillips is also on the Cape, playing for the Wareham Gatemen, Davidson plays for the Falmouth Commodores and McCann is on the Chatham Anglers.
