COTUIT– Here are a few notes from today’s game against Hyannis as the Kettleers look to get back to .500 tomorrow:
- Griffin McLarty (College of Charleston) did a great job in the first inning of settling down after giving up a double to Davis Wendzel (Baylor), putting down the next two batters in order.
- Todd Lott’s (Louisiana-Lafayette) solo home run over the right field fence in the third inning was the first allowed by a Cotuit pitcher this season.
- Hyannis right fielder Nick Derr (Florida State) made the defensive play of the day, essentially running through the right field fence in foul territory to make the catch and rob Will Robertson to end the third inning.
- Peyton Burdick (Wright State) has now hit safely in each of the first three games for Cotuit, as

his fourth inning single extended the streak. Burdick would later come around to score on an RBI double by Zach Biermann (Coastal Carolina).
- All five Cotuit pitchers made their Kettleer debuts on Friday. Jake Dexter (Southern Maine), Ryan Lefner (Saint Louis), Mathieu Gauthier (NC State), and Garrett Gayle (Rice) each came on in relief for starter Griffin McLarty (Charleston).
- Lefner, Gauthier, and Gayle each pitched an inning of scoreless relief, with Lefner and Gayle striking out two hitters apiece. When asked after the game, manager Mike Roberts said Gayle had the best stuff out of the aforementioned five.
- Zach Biermann (Coastal Carolina) has gotten off to a nice start in Cotuit as one of the “temp” players. He added an RBI double against Hyannis to make it three hits in two games since he arrived on the Cape.
- The Kettleers have eight different players on their 2018 roster from three different schools at the College World Series in Omaha: Florida, Arkansas and Texas.
- The Razorbacks and Longhorns will play head-to-head on Sunday at 1:00 p.m. Kettleers Bryce Bonnin and Jordan McFarland will represent Arkansas, while Duke Ellis and Ryan Reynolds will represent Texas.
- Following them, Cotuit players Andrew Baker, Keenan Bell, Wil Dalton, and Brady Smith have their first game on Sunday for Florida at 6:00 p.m. when they take on Texas Tech.
- Spotted in the Hyannis dugout before the game: a Bobby Boucher jersey made famous by Adam Sandler in “The Waterboy”. By far the coolest jersey seen at Lowell Park so far this summer.
- The Kettleers will get back at it on Saturday, traveling to Orleans to take on the Firebirds. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
