COTUIT– Zach Biermann arrived on the Cape looking to pick up right where he left off at Coastal Carolina.

By tearing up opposing pitching at any chance he gets.

The Chanticleer has been a great addition to the Cotuit lineup, with three hits in his first two games. His RBI double on Friday against Hyannis drove in the only run for the Kettleers.

“It was a fastball away, I just try to go with it and hit it into the gap,” said Biermann of his fourth inning double.

Manager Mike Roberts has taken notice of Biermann’s start, and likes what he’s seen so far. “I like Zach’s setup, I like his maturity,” said Roberts. “Great attitude, pretty good athlete, hopefully he can show some power.”

Biermann had plenty of power this past season for Coastal Carolina, hitting 13 home runs and driving in 57 runs while maintaining a .302/.419/.561 slash line as he appeared in 58 games, helping lead the Chanticleers to NCAA Regionals.

He hails from West Bend, WI, and transferred to Coastal Carolina after two years at Polk State, a community college in Winter Haven, FL. A junior, Zach played two seasons in Florida before transferring prior to the 2018 season.

With that said, Biermann is no stranger to adjustments. Even on the baseball field, as he adjusts from metal to wooden bats, and the pitching that he faces gets a bit more challenging.

“The pitching is definitely deeper. Everybody can throw 95 miles per hour, and that’s been a big difference, and guys can throw three pitches for strikes consistently,” said Biermann.

As for what Zach is looking for in terms of sustained success, he just wants to keep it simple.

“I’m just trying to keep things going. Just gotta hit what the pitcher is giving me, I just try to build off that.”

Biermann and the rest of the Kettleers will look to get back to .500 on Saturday when they travel to Orleans to take on the Firebirds. First pitch is set for 7:00 p.m.
