Kettleers to Honor Pete Frates
& Support Fight Against ALS!
Note: new start time: 1:00 pm
The Cotuit Kettleers are excited and honored to welcome the former Kettleer Rick DeAngelis and the Lexington Blue Sox of the Intercity Baseball League to Lowell Park for a double-header scrimmage on Saturday, June 9, 2018. The first game will commence at 1:00 p.m.
For the fourth year in a row, the Cotuit Athletic Association has announced that the games will be played in honor of former Boston College baseball captain, Pete Frates, the co-founder of the Ice Bucket Challenge. Pete Frates played for the Lexington Blue Sox in 2011, and he played at Lowell Park in the annual scrimmage in June of that year. The following March (2012), he was diagnosed with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis, or ALS (also referred to as Lou Gehrig’s Disease). Pete accepted his diagnosis, and vowed to fight back against this terrible disease. He co-founded the Ice Bucket Challenge, which went viral across the world in the summer of 2014.

Pete Frates swings and misses at a pitch at Lowell Park in June of 2011. (Trivia: the Kettleers catcher in this photo is Luke Maile (Kentucky), who is currently the starting catcher for the Toronto Blue Jays!).
Since then, Pete and his family have worked tirelessly in the fight against ALS. Their efforts have raised hundreds of millions of dollars to fund research aimed at finding a cure for ALS. Just as importantly, Pete Frates, along with his family and supporters, has raised awareness of this debilitating disease, and brought the pursuit of a cure to the attention of medical researchers. Pete Frates started the Pete Frates3 Fund to accept donations and direct them to critical medical research projects. In support of the Frates cause, and the ongoing efforts to Strike Out ALS, the Kettleers will accept donations at the June 9th scrimmage, and deliver 100% of the monies collected to the PeteFrates3 Fund.
This year, the Frates family is providing Pete Frates gear (t-shirts, hats, etc.) for sale and raffle to raise even more money in the fight against ALS. The Cotuit Kettleers are honored to continue supporting Pete Frates, his family, and all those engaged in the effort to find a cure for ALS.
Please join us for a GREAT day of baseball at beautiful Lowell Park on Saturday, June 9, 2018, starting at 1:30 p.m. and help us do our part to keep up the fight to K-ALS!!!!
