COTUIT — Before Wednedsday’s game, league officials were present to honor two Kettleers players with league awards. Griffin Conine (Duke) was named the best pro prospect, as voted by the scouts, and Greyson Jenista (Wichita State) was named the league MVP, as voted by the league managers.
Greyson Jenista: League MVP
Jenista hit .310 with 3 HR, 16 RBI, and 9 SB in his second straight season with the Kettleers, while also providing strong defense in centerfield.
“It means a lot,” Jenista said. “As a second year player it was kind of unexpected. You just come out here and try to play hard every day. I’m glad it paid off. I’m just out here trying to win games for the club.”
Griffin Conine: Best Pro Prospcet
Conine hit .329 with 9 home runs, 28 RBI while playing right field in 42 games. He also blasted a home run in the Cape League all star game, earning MVP of the West team.
“Coming out here, one of the most competitive leagues in the country, getting seen a lot and playing well was one of my main goals,” Conine said. “Getting that award to validate the work I’ve done up here is great. That’s what I came up here to do. It was awesome to get that recognition.”
Congrats to both awesome Kettleers!
