Cotuit (5-16) lost an away game to Falmouth (11-10) Monday night, 2-0, at Gov Fuller Field in Falmouth.

At the plate

Cotuit was stifled at the plate for a majority of the evening Monday, posting just two hits in the loss. Falmouth starter Jeff Passantino (Lipscomb) tossed seven innings in the victory, allowing no runs on just two hits and one walk. Passantino struck out seven.

Passantino carried a perfect game into the top of the fifth inning, until it was broken up by a Quinn Brodey (Stanford) walk. Jason Delay (Vanderbilt) singled later in the inning to break up the no hitter, but the Kettleers could only get Brodey to third base before the inning was ended on an AJ Balta (Oregon) lineout.

Otherwise, Cotuit’s only other hit of the game came courtesy of Ryan Hagan (Mercer), who singled into center field.

On the mound

Cal Becker (Sonoma State) got the nod for Cotuit Monday night. The right hander threw three and one-third inning for the Kettleers, allowing no runs on two hits and three walks. He struck out three in the appearance.

Becker was relieved by Rio Gomez (Arizona), who saw his first appearance of the summer. Gomez allowed both Commodore runs, both earned, on one hit and two walks. He threw for just one inning, striking out one in the loss.

From there, the duo of Jared Padgett (Mississippi State) and Eddie Muhl (George Washington) finished the game for Cotuit, allowing no runs in the final three and two-thirds innings of the game.

In the field

Cotuit was clean-fielded all night, despite the loss to the Commodores. The Kettleers had no errors, and turned two double plays.

Number to know: 0-10

Cotuit is 0-10 in away games this season; the worst record in away games in the league. The Kettleers have earned all five of their wins this season at home.
