CHATHAM — The Kettleers (6-16) capitalized on several Anglers mistakes — including four errors — to take down Chatham (10-12), 7-1, at Veterans Field on Tuesday for Cotuit’s first road win of the season. Coming into the game, the Kettleers were 0-10 away from Lowell Park.

At the plate

The Kettleers scored in the fourth, fifth, sixth, seventh and eighth innings to total their seventh runs for the game.

After Pat Dorrian (Lynn) hit a sacrifice fly to right field to plate the Kettleers’ first run in fourth inning, Clay Fisher (UCSB) hit a grounder to third that looked to be the final out of the inning. The fielder fell while snagging the ball and rushed his throw to first, bouncing it past the bag and letting Tim Susnara (Oregon) score.

In the fifth, Cal Stevenson (Arizona) hit a two-out liner into right field for a single. Alonzo Jones (Vanderbilt) ran from first to third and the throw from the outfield beat him to the bag, but it hopped past the third baseman. A.J. Balta (Oregon) followed up with a standup double to score them both.

Chatham walked in a run in the sixth inning and then the Anglers’ third baseman whiffed on a grounder in the seventh to let another run in.

Balta was 4-for-5 with two runs and three runs batted in. He had just five hits in his 30 at-bats coming into the game.

On the mound

Justin Hooper (UCLA) got the start for the Kettleers and lasted 3 1/3 innings in his scoreless start. He surrendered just one hit and struck out two batters before being pulled for Taylor Lehman (Penn State).

The reliever pitched the next 2 2/3 innings and was able to hold the Anglers to one run. He earned his third win of the season and has now accounted for half of Cotuit’s wins.

Ryan Rigby (Mississippi State) and Alec Byrd (Florida State) finished off the last three innings.
