YARMOUTH-DENNIS — Brendan Skidmore hit a line drive into left-center field in the bottom of the ninth inning to plate a run and lift the Yarmouth-Dennis Red Sox over the Cotuit Kettleers, 3-2. Y-D finished with more than twice as many hits as Cotuit — 15-3.
Eddie Muhl (George Washington) got the start for Cotuit and let in just one run in 4 1/3 innings pitched.
The Kettleers struck first with a run in the top of the first. Hagen Owenby hit an infield single to short with Cal Stevenson on third, pushing him home.
But the Red Sox countered right back in the next half inning. Y-D loaded the bases when Muhl surrendered two singles then a four-pitch walk. The damage was held to one run with the help of a force out at home and a double play that ended the inning.
The scoreboard remained blank until Brendan Skidmore (Binghamton) hit a solo homer to center field in the sixth to put the Red Sox up by one.
It wasn’t until the eighth inning that Cotuit tied the game on a Jordan Pearce (Nevada) sacrifice fly to left field.
