ORLEANS — The Kettleers downslide continued on Monday as Cotuit (1-9) fell to the Orleans Firebirds (6-4), 10-4.
Starting pitcher Taylor Lehman (Penn State) lasted just 3 2/3 innings with five hits, six runs — five earned — and four walks allowed. Jared Padgett (Mississippi State) took over in the fourth and surrendered three hits, four runs — none earned — in his 1 1/3 inning. Cal Becker (Sonoma State) was a bright spot on the mound for Cotuit. He threw two innings of hitless baseball with four strikeouts.
Orleans scored four runs in both the fourth and fifth innings to open up a 10-0 lead. Zach Kirtley (St. Mary’s) was 3-for-3 for Orleans and had four runs batted in. He cleared the bases with a three-run double in the fourth.
The Kettleers didn’t get on the board until the eighth inning when Albee Weiss (Cal State Northridge) hit an RBI line drive single into left-center field. Tim Susnara (Oregon) scored later in the inning on a wild pitch.
Susnara struck again when he hit a two-run single to left center in the top of the ninth inning.
