WAREHAM — About a dozen Cotuit players gathered around Jack Klein (Stanford) sitting in the grass in foul territory along the third base line outside the Kettleers dugout. Cotuit had just lost to Wareham, 7-4, at Spillane Field, but Klein was watching the livestream of the Bourne at Falmouth game that was in the bottom of the 10th and would decide the Kettleers fate.
Head coach Mike Roberts sat in the dugout looking at his phone, asking the players who was at the plate and who was pitching.
Word came in from fans that Bourne had won, granting the Kettleers a playoff berth, but it wasn’t until the players watched the final out on the livestream that they celebrated. Roberts breathed a sigh of relief.

“We’ve lost to Hyannis six times,” Roberts said to his players in the post game huddle. “If there’s any time you want to play it ought to be tomorrow. I don’t think they’re that much better than us.”
With Falmouth’s loss to Bourne, the Kettleers snagged the fourth and final playoff spot in the West. Cotuit will play in Hyannis at 6 p.m. on Monday and at home at 4 p.m. on Tuesday. If necessary, a third game will be played in Hyannis at 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
