• Falmouth 5 Cotuit 3
• Homerun Barrage
  • There was a total of four homeruns in tonight’s game, the most in any Cape Cod League game all season.
  • Dylan Davis (Oregon St) and Kevin Cron (TCU) went back-to-back in the top half of the second inning for Falmouth. It was the first time any team has done so all season long, and was the first homerun for both Davis and Cron on the Cape. Both long balls came on the first pitch, and both traveled over the left field fence.
  • Davis then hit his second homerun of the game, and of the season, in the top half of the fourth. It was a solo shot to centerfield.
  • Mike Ford (Princeton) hit the fourth and final homerun of the game, the only one Cotuit got all day. It was a three-run shot deep to right on a 3-2 fastball, cutting the Falmouth lead to 4-3 at the time.
• Dynamite Defense
  • Trailing 5-3 in the bottom of the ninth, Kettleers second baseman Logan Ratledge (NC State) hit a ground ball to the left side of the infield. Falmouth shortstop Kevin Newman (Arizona) ranged deep into the hole on the left field grass, planted, and made a strong throw to just get Ratledge at first. That play kept the tying run on deck at the time.
  • Ratledge had a solid defensive play himself, coming in the top of the fifth. With two outs he ranged to his left and fielded the ball. He then made an off-balance throw just in time at first to end the top half of the inning.
  • The Kettleers got an unconventional 2-3-5 double play in the top of the third inning. After leadoff hitter Leon Byrd Jr. (Rice) singled, Kevin Newman (Arizona State) laid a bunt down that went back to Ellis on the mound. Ellis fielded the ball and made the throw to Cotuit first baseman Tim Kiene (Maryland). Byrd Jr. rounded second base without hesitation and headed for third on the play, and Kiene made a strong throw to just get him at third.
• Kevin Bradley (Clemson) started at catcher for the second day in a row. After starting out with a surplus of backstops, the Kettleers have seen most of their everyday field general’s leave for various reasons. Bradley caught the first six innings before moving to shortstop when Nolan Clark (Concordia) came in behind the plate.
• Chris Ellis (Mississippi) went 5.0 innings, giving up four earned runs and getting his first loss of the season. Before tonight he had given up one earned run in 16.0 innings this season. He struck out only two Commodores hitters, the first two of the game.
• Joel Seddon (South Carolina) threw four more scoreless innings in relief, extending his shutout streak to 12.2 innings on the season.
• Jake Fincher (N.C. State) had two more hits tonight, giving him six on the season. He has hit safely in all of his first five games as a Kettleer.
• Ratledge has also hit safely in every game he has played in this summer. He had a hit tonight, extending his streak to three.
