Ford Chooses the Yankees:

• Kettleers corner infielder Mike Ford (Princeton) has agreed to terms earlier Tuesday to sign with the New York Yankees. Ford leaves the Kettleers with a .407 batting average, tops in the Cape Cod Baseball League. He also had 5 HR during his 26 games with Cotuit, tied for most in the league.
• Ford will leave the Cape tomorrow and travel to Staten Island to join the Yankees short A team in the New York Penn League, a short drive from his home town of Belle Mead, New Jersey.
• “It’s really a dream come true, and I couldn’t be happier,” Ford said prior to tonight’s win. “(Being in Cotuit) has just been a great experience for me in the last two years, and I wouldn’t trade my time here for anything in the world.”

Taking a Look at the Future:

• There were 21 scouts on hand at Lowell Park for the first pitch on Tuesday, It was the most on hand for any Kettleers home game this season.
• One scout suggested that the abnormal number of talent evaluators at tonight’s game was simply a product of schedules falling in to place at the right time, and was a coincidence. The Bourne-Cotuit matchup was the only CCBL game that started at 5 p.m., and some scouts left midway through to catch another game.

Fresh Start:

• Jared Walsh (Georgia) got his fourth start of the season tonight, his first since June 24th at Chatham. After starting on opening day for the Kettleers, Walsh had recently gotten work out of the bullpen. He went 4.1 innings tonight, gave up only one hit, no runs, two walks, and striking out three Braves.
• He had a no-hitter through the first four innings. The first Bourne hit came on the top of the fifth when third baseman Matt Gonzalez (Georgia Tech) singled.

Scoreless Streak Ended:

• Joel Seddon’s (South Carolina) scoreless streak out of the bullpen ended tonight. He gave up his first run on the season in the sixth inning, ending his streak at 19.1 innings pitched.
• Seddon has now only given up 11 hits and struck out 12 during his 20 innings pitched this season.

Aces Wild

• Tonight marked the ninth time this season where the Kettleers have given up one run or less. In those games they are a perfect 9-0.
• Bourne was held to one run for the first time in six games, and the eighth time all season. They are 1-7 in games only scoring one run or less.
