Cotuit 5, Wareham 3.

Starting Strong

• The Kettleers scored four runs in the first inning for the second time in three days on Sunday night in Wareham. Eight players came to the plate in total, with the first five reaching on hits.
• Danny Diekroeger (Stanford) singled to begin the game, Mike Ford (Princeton) singled to put runners on first and second, and Yale Rosen (Washington St) singled in a run to begin things. Rhett Wiseman (Vanderbilt) then tripled to drive in Ford and Rosen, and Drew Jackson (Stanford) singled in Wiseman. It was the first time all season the Kettleers had five players in a row reach base with a hit.

 Hot and Cold

• After giving up five straight hits to the Kettleers offense to begin the night, Wareham starting pitcher Trey Killian (Arkansas Fayetteville) settled down nicely. He went on to retire the next 11 batters straight before Hunter Cole broke the spell with a double in the fourth inning.
• Killian retired 21 of the final 26 batters he faced on the night.
• He only gave up one run (unearned) from the second inning to the seventh.

 Going For the Sweep

• With the 5-3 victory over Wareham on Saturday Cotuit now leads the season series five games to zero. Over that span of time the Kettleers have outscored the Gateman 22-8.
• The two teams meet for the last time on July 31^st in Wareham, where the Kettleers can cap off a season sweep.

Coastal Connection

• The tandem of Ben Smith and Patrick Corbett (both from Coastal Carolina) pitched again tonight. Smith went the first 2.2 innings scoreless before exiting with an unknown arm injury, then Corbett went the next 3.2 innings only giving up one unearned run.
• The Kettleers are 5-1 in the games that the two have pitched in back-to-back now on the season.
• Patrick Corbett has allowed only one earned run all season in 15.2 innings of work.

Streaks Ended

• Mike Ford’s multi-hit game streak ended on Sunday night at three games. He was 1-for-5 with a run scored in the ballgame. His batting average still stands at .407, best in the CCBL.
• Tino Lipson (California Davis) had a hit in all 12 of his previous games for the Gateman so far this season. He went 0-for-4 on the night with a strikeout and a walk. He has still reached base in all 13 games he has played.

 Coming out of the ‘Pen

• Alex Haines (Seton Hill) came out of the bullpen for the first time. He worked from the stretch for the whole inning, even with no runners on base. Haines had dealt with some control issues in his past two starts, walking a combined six batters in 4.2 innings. He did not allow a run tonight.
