• Red Shirt Friday
  • The Kettleers participated in their first “Red Shirt Friday” home game at Lowell Park this season. In honor of the armed forces, Cotuit donned bright red uniform tops.
  • “Red Shirt Friday is a way for us to honor the men and woman of our armed forces, and to recognize their service for our country,” said Bob Scotti, a volunteer to the cause. “We realize they are away from their families and loved ones, and this is just a way to give back to them and show them we support what they’re doing and we hope they come home safe.”

• Holding the Falmouth Offense in Check
  • Tonight was the second time Falmouth’s explosive offense was held to one run all season; the first came on June 16^th against the Kettleers. The Commodores offense has generated 133 runs, the most of any CCBL team.
  • Cotuit starter Evan Beal (South Carolina) loaded the bases in the top half of the first on a walk and two singles, but got out of the inning unscathed. He struck out Falmouth’s four through six hitters in order. Casey Gillaspie went down on a cutter, Dylan Davis on a slider, and Kevin Cron on another cutter.
  • Those three strikeouts began a stretch for Beal where he retired nine Commodore hitters in a row from the first to the third inning.
  • Beal and Eric Karch (Pepperdine) combined to throw 26-of-37 first pitch strikes.

• Offensive Outburst in the First
  • The Kettleers plated four runs in the bottom of the first by way of four hits and a walk. It was the first time the Kettleers have plated that many runs in the first inning this season. All nine hitters got an at-bat during the inning.

• Throwing Heat
  • Dylan Davis (Oregon State) threw a clean eighth inning for Falmouth. It was the first time he took the mound in the Cape League, and he struck out two of the three hitters he faced. He hit 97 miles-per-hour on the radar gun once, and was consistently throwing mid 90’s with his fastball.

• Roster Moves
  • The Chicago Cubs officially announced the signing of catcher Will Remillard (Coastal Carolina) this morning. Remillard, who was taken in the 19^th round by Chicago about a month ago, appeared in 14 games behind the plate for the Kettleers this season prior to leaving the team on Tuesday. Nolan Clark is now the only catcher left on Cotuit’s roster. They had four in the beginning of the year. The Kettleers have been forced to work out both Kevin Bradley and Galli Cribbs Jr. at the catcher position in Remillard’s absence.
  • Outfielder Steven Duggar (Clemson) has officially been released from the Kettleers roster, for undisclosed reasons. He played in 15 Cape League games this season.

• Playoff Push
  • The Magic number is now 10. If the Kettleers win 10 more games, they clinch a playoff spot in the Western Division.
