Both Teams Stay Atop Their Respective Divisions in East and West

COTUIT, MA — Cotuit suffered its worst defeat of the season against the Eastern Division leading Red Sox as Y-D batters pounded Cotuit pitching for a twelve to nothing victory. Yarmouth-Dennis took control from the very start of the game as from the beginning, the Red Sox were able to have their way with Cotuit starter Dan Delucia (Ohio State, 0BB, 2K, 10H), who with this loss, now stands at 2-3 on the season. In the first inning, Delucia faced all nine Y-D batters, giving up five runs on six hits. After such a tough start, Cotuit was never able to gain control of the game for while the Red Sox offence seemed to have Delucia’s number, the Kettleers own offence completely sputtered against Red Sox starter Bryan Henry (Florida State, 1BB, 6K, 5H).

Henry held the Cotuit attack in check as he earned his second victory of the season to give the Red Sox an 18-12 record on the season. Cotuit batters were kept off balance throughout the game by Henry and were never able to chip away at the Red Sox lead. As a result, Y-D went into the sixth inning with complete control of the game and they showed no mercy as they added another five runs off of Cotuit reliever Dan Runzler (East Carolina, 2BB, 4K, 5H) to give them a twelve run lead.

With the game completely out of hand, Coach Roberts elected to have Brett Lilley (Notre Dame, 0 for 3, 0BB, 1K, 1H) pitch the ninth inning instead of wasting any other pitchers from his bullpen in what was an embarrassing loss for Cotuit at their home field. Lilley performed admirably as he was able to get out of the ninth without Y-D adding any more runs to their already large lead. Cotuit then went down one-two-three in the ninth, with the last out an amazing catch by Red Sox center fielder Tyler Henley (Rice, 1 for 2) on an extremely well hit ball by Tony Thomas (Florida State, 0 for 4) that if hit anywhere else, would have been a homerun. As the last out proved though, it was not the Kettleers day as with the loss, Cotuit now stands at 18-8-1 on the season. Cotuit goes back on the road to face the Brewster Whitecaps where hopefully their pitching and their hitting performance will improve.
