Cotuit Falls to Visiting Y-D Red Sox as Sox Bats Explode

COTUIT, MA — Three home runs helped to power Yarmouth-Dennis over the Kettleers as the Red Sox bats dominated in their ten to three victory over Cotuit.  Clay Dirks (LSU, 3 Ks, 4 BB) lost his first game of the season as he struggled with his control throughout the four-plus innings that he pitched, constantly falling behind the Red Sox hitters, which they took advantage of.

Though Shane Jordan (Stetson) started off the scoring in the first inning with some very aggressive base running, Cotuit couldn’t build on the lead and allowed the Red Sox to take over the game in the second inning.  The Red Sox scored three runs in the second inning off of Dirks, with the rally starting with Jeff Kindel’s (Georgia Tech, 3 for 5 batting) single.  Danny Lehmann (Rice, 3 for 5 batting, 3 RBI) hit the first home run for the red sox to drive in two runs for his eigth RBI of the season.  A double by Brian Kervin (Texas Christian, 1 for 5 batting, 1 RBI) scored Lehmann to give the Red Sox a three to one lead, but the Kettleers would battle back the next two innings to tie the score back up.

Julio Borbon (Tennessee, 2 for 3 batting, 1 RBI) and Devin Thomas (Brown, 1 for 4 batting, 1 RBI) singled to bring in the two tying runs for the Kettleers, but Cotuit was unable to hang on due to the fantastic hitting of the Red Sox.

Chris Errecart (Florida State, 2 for 4 batting, 4 RBI) was the main force behind the Red Sox attack in the second half of the game as he was personally responsible for four of the remaining six runs they scored.  With two home runs, one a three-run home run in the sixth and one a solo shot in the eighth, Errecart tied Bryan Harris (Cal State Fullerton) for the league lead in RBI as both players have nineteen RBI on the season.

Cotuit wasn’t able to overcome the offensive onslaught of the Red Sox, as they never again scored against Brian Henry (Florida State, 4 Ks, 1 BB), the starter for the Red Sox who picked up his first victory of the season.  Cotuit will now have to hit the road with a two-game losing streak, but hopefully when they return home on Monday they will have gotten back on track.  The Ketttleers will face Harwich tommorow and Cotuit will look to begin a new winning streak against them.
